Two Discrimination Suits Against UWL Over The Same Hiring

The two suits filed this year both charge discrimination in hiring, because of the appointment of a vice-chancellor’s wife to a post in the department of international education.  Sandra Sieber believes she was denied that same position two years ago, which was similar to her job, because she was about 50 at the time, and the woman hired is much younger.  Long-time international education director Jay Lokken also objected to the hiring because he considered it nepotism, and he had recommended Sieber for the job.  Lokken says he was transferred to a different university job last month after being threatened by the vice-chancellor and the provost to stay out of the situation.
