Buffalo County Child Hit By Semi

A nine year old boy is clinging to life today after being hit by a semi truck Tuesday in Buffalo County. County deputies say the child had been struck by a semi on Highway 35 in the Village of Nelson. The child was taken to a hospital in Wabasha then flown to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Deputies say they don’t know who hit the child as the driver took off. The limited description of the semi was described as having a white semi trailer with pictures on the side. A witness was not able to tell deputies what the pictures were. It’s unknown if the semi continued in the direction of Wabasha or if turned to go southbound on Highway 35 in the direction of Alma. The child was crossing the highway with one other child when the accident occurred. The children had stopped to yield for traffic, but victim ran out on to the highway and was struck by the rear portion of the semi trailer. The identity of the child is not being released at this time.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department is asking for assistance from anyone who may have witnessed the accident or could provide information regarding the accident. They are asked to call the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department at 608-685-4433.
