Councils Considering Mining Annexation Requests

The possibility is still very real for two cities in Trempealeau county to annex some land in the town of Lincoln.  Independence and Whitehall are both considering annexing hundreds of acres from Lincoln in order to facilitate the construction of a frac sand mining operation by Texas-based hi-Crush partners.  Tonight, the Independence city council is set to consider the annexation.  hi-Crush has already paid millions of dollars for land in the town of Lincoln in preparation for a mining operation there but Trempealeau county recently adopted a frac sand mining moratorium, sparking the annexation plans.
