Concerns about drug deaths in Wisconsin have brought high-ranking political leaders to the La Crosse area.

Both Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) traveled to La Crosse this week for discussions with area law enforcement about drug abuse.

Baldwin was at La Crosse’s Black River Beach Neighborhood Center for a meeting and later spoke to reporters Thursday about the effects that drug overdoses have on families and the community.

“There are lives that are cut short far too early, families that are devastated, empty seats at the dining room table,” Baldwin said. “It’s really an epidemic that doesn’t see any partisan bounds or geographic lines.”

Among those in attendance at the meeting were La Crosse Police Chief Shawn Kudron, Fire Chief Jeff Schott and La Crosse County Sheriff Jeff Siegel.

They met with Baldwin to discuss approaches to reduce what they consider a drug crisis.

Schott said over 50 recent drug-related deaths in La Crosse County have kept first responders busy in a way they don’t want.

“If there were 55 deaths from house fires in the city of La Crosse, I think that would be a tragedy that would make national news, probably every night,” Schott said. “We have 55 overdose deaths in the county. We have to move forward in any way, shape or form to get better, to collaborate.”

Baldwin said state and federal governments need to work together on prevention programs with foreign countries, where fentanyl and similar drugs are being produced.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." These Dem idiots opened the border to people and drugs resulting in 250,000 U.S. citizens killed by drugs since Biden took office. Baldwin and her ilk are responsible. And NOW she shows up 250,000 lives late to get her picture taken before the election. What a pathetic human being.

You’re right! The Dems open the flood gate to the import of illegal drugs(or are they undocumented drugs?), and then mount their white horses and come to the rescue of the problem they created. Time to say goodbye to Tammy and Joe and get an administration that is pro-active, not re-active!

It’s like this: Baldwin shows up to tell us what we already know. It’s a ‘non-partisan’ photo op (Can’t believe Pfaff wasn’t there). Baldwin has found out that Eric Hovde is gaining on her in the latest polls. But, she’s about ripe to be be beaten. Wisconsin has a habit of ousting Democrat senators a couple of terms in. (See Gaylord Nelson and Ross Feingold.)

The sad part is that this cheap media stunt took our professional law enforcement away from their work.
