The La Crosse Community Theatre is expanding its work space, acquiring a second building a few blocks from its downtown home at the Weber Center.

LCT is buying the First Church of Christ building on Cass Street to be used mainly for storage and rehearsal space.

“It’s got a double basement, with two foundations, ” Erik Vose, the theatre’s executive director said. “That’s gonna be a great place to be able to store costumes and props, and there are multiple rooms, so it’s gonna allow us to kind of spread those out and keep those organized.”

Vose added that LCT needs more space than is available at its riverfront building.

The purchase price for the church is $250,000.

The historic structure of the church will be preserved, while changes may be made inside.

Vose said while the congregation is looking for a new worship site, the church members will still be able to use the current building for now.

The LCT productions will still be staged at the Weber Center, near the Cass Street bridge. The church is about a two-minute drive from the main theatre.
