Mayor Mitch Reynolds in the WIZM studio Monday for La Crosse Talk PM, discussing homelessness in the area, whether he supports ranked-choice voting, tearing down the old Macy’s at Valley View Mall and reasoning behind a lack of candidates in upcoming local elections.

La Crosse Talk PM airs weekdays at 5:06 p.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk PM wherever you get your podcasts.

Began the show talking a bit about the city’s snow emergency and, of course, the Packers making the playoffs.

After that, it was what he’s learned over the last three years about homelessness, ahead of a county meeting on the issue later Monday evening.

In the bottom half of the show, we hit on the Wisconsin state Legislature’s dueling conversations over supporting or completely banning ranked-choice voting, and whether the Mayor would support that for city elections.

That also led to conversations both about local government rights and upcoming school board elections, and how contentious those have become.

Lastly, we talked a bit about the plan to demolish the old Macy’s at the Valley View Mall for a car wash and “quick serve” restaurants, including not a Popeye’s Chicken — which is an ongoing joke on the show with the mayor.

Rank choice voting? Absolutely not! It’s a scheme that can cause a candidate who does not garner the majority of votes to win elections. Does that make any sense? 1 legal voter – 1 legal vote, Period!

Spend, spend, spend..I want accountability on spending!!? If we hire an administrator, why do we need a mayor? Mitch if you can’t do the job you should not have run for it?? You have a coorginator, to handle the homeless,$80,000, a woman to catch stray animals $78,000,that’s $150,000 extra tax $.
What’s next. The other older mayors could handle the job?? New tennis courts, spend spend spend liberals what a joke.. People take your heads out of your ass!!? This city has not grown that much.. I have been here all of my life “78” years..we don’t need to supply $ to collages and universities?
They already have taught our kids to hate our country, parents, what is next.??
