Accessory dwelling rules are up for debate by La Crosse council members at this week’s committee meetings

Plans for regulating backyard cottages, also called accessory dwelling units (ADUs), will be discussed at two meetings in La Crosse this week.

The proposed ordinance on secondary dwellings is the topic of a hearing by the City Plan Commission, which meets at 4 p.m. Monday at City Hall.

The same ordinance comes before the city council Judiciary and Administration Committee at 6 p.m. Tuesday night.

Mac Kiel and Mackenzie Mindel discussed some of the details on ADUs last week on La Crosse Talk PM.

City leaders will review rules that could be used to allow owners to rent out accessory buildings, or find other ways to let people live in those units.
