Rotary Lights to be set up soon for 29th year on La Crosse’s riverfront
If it’s October in La Crosse, it must be time for “stringing up” the Rotary Lights.
Local Rotary members announced Tuesday their plans for the 29th year of the holiday light display in Riverside Park.
As usual, the riverfront light show will be switched on the night after Thanksgiving (Nov. 24), and will be lit up every night through New Year’s Eve.
That’s 38 nights with over three million Christmas lights scattered throughout the park. Rotary members and other volunteers will begin assembling the displays over the next few days.
Rotary Lights collects food for area charities during the festival.
Most nights, the lights will be on from 5-10 p.m., except Dec. 24-25, when they will close at 9 p.m., and New Year’s Eve, when the park remains lighted until 1 a.m.
About 130,000 visitors go through the park in a typical year to see the lights.
Santa Claus is scheduled to be in the park every night through Dec. 23. Besides Santa’s house, the park will again have a skating rink and carriage rides on certain nights.
