Over 100 planes take off from La Crosse Airport for Oshkosh air show

About 120 private airplanes which gathered at the La Crosse Airport late this week have took to the air in groups of three on Saturday, to head to the EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh.

The Bonanzas to Oshkosh group has made La Crosse a meeting point for the last leg to the EAA since 2019, having previously gathered for decades in Rockford, Illinois.

Spectators lined up at fences near the Colgan Air buildings on Saturday morning to watch as the planes rose into the sky, headed toward the eastern side of Wisconsin.

Most of the pilots arrived in La Crosse on Friday to prepare for the large departure around noon on Saturday.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
