A 48-hour snow emergency declared for the city of La Crosse, starting at 6 p.m. Sunday, when alternate-side parking goes into effect.

The emergency could be cancelled early or extended, based on weather conditions.

The latest forecast from the National Weather Service – La Crosse puts the city in a band of snow that could reach 8-12 inches. The heaviest snow is expected east of La Crosse, possibly bringing a foot or more to Sparta and Tomah.

Rain had already started changing to snow in La Crosse shortly after noon on Sunday.

The peak impacts are expected between 7 p.m. Sunday through 10 a.m. Monday.

This week marks five years since La Crosse received a 6-inch snowfall on April 18th, 2018. That storm pushed the snowfall during the month to a new record for La Crosse of 19 inches for April.
