A $10,000 expense for new charging stations for La Crosse’s bus service.

The city’s Finance & Personnel Committee approved the proposal Thursday to expand the MTU’s ability to use electric buses.

The bus system currently has two electric busses, and intends to buy more.

The $10,000 expense, however, would allow the MTU increase its charging capacity for the buses.

The new equipment would allow the buses to charge faster.

The MTU plan now goes to the full city council for a vote next week.

Great idea, I love how the committee is voting it without a referendum. I have long been bothered by the Lacrosse city government’s general lack of fiscal discipline. Instead of trying to spend within the government’s means, like most of us seeking financial independence try to do, the government tends to just borrow and spend more. See how many tax payers will support this when they are informed on the True cost impact. I know people that live outside of the city, perhaps in another state due to the taxes being to excessive.

In order to pay the funding the city will propose increasing the tax base from property and sales tax. Don’t stop here, have every street light, public building, police vehicles, city trucks, government vehicles, fire trucks, etc. Pretty easy to spend others money on an initiative that the public tax payers have not agreed upon. As Friedman said ..the worst thing is when a committee spends somebody else’s money on somebody else such as a green initiative.

Economic waste ..and not representing the tax payers.

To augment the comment above, as a comparative analysis, for the CY 2022 a home valued at $170k in Lacrosse is taxed at about $3,450. I would expect the electrification of the city by the “committee” will increase that property tax. As a note the city government takes in the budget from each and every tax payer to cover employee salaries, buildings, overhead, and services. If these Electrification programs and charging cost a boatload more, where do they get the funds…TAXES. Don’t let them side tracl and say they get state & federal funding. Your paycheck taxes provide the state and federal funding, Just take out more.

Moving to Houston MN and having a comparable valued home an individual will pay about $2,200.
Moving to Stoddard WI you will pay about $2,500
