Five overdoses in La Crosse County so far in 2023, Fentanyl suspected as a cause

The new year in La Crosse County is starting with what the medical examiner calls an “alarming” number of drug overdoses.

The examiner’s office has investigated five potential overdose cases in the two weeks since New Year’s Day. Medical examiner Beth Lubinski says fentanyl may have been involved in those cases.

Lubinski recommends that families of people struggling with drug addiction obtain Narcan, which would be used to treat an overdose, and Fentanyl test strips, which can detect that substance in any drugs being taken.
