Biden fails to show he is most pro-union President

The Democratic Party has long been considered the party of labor. They have a history of supporting, and courting, unions. President Joe Biden proclaimed he would be the most pro-union President in history. But he failed to prove it when he forced a labor deal on railroad workers to avert a potentially disruptive strike. It’s true that a strike could further disrupt the supply chain and the economy. But this was a bad deal for the railroad workers. Their threatened strike was over sick pay. They don’t get any. And they only wanted seven days, the same as other federal contractors. Under Biden’s deal, they still get no sick days. If they get Covid or otherwise fall ill, they must use vacation time, and schedule it in advance.  That is absurd, and un-American. People get sick, and sick days should be a basic right of employment. It isn’t as if the rail companies can’t afford it. Together, they recorded $27 billion in annual revenues, but continue to refuse to offer sick time. Senator Bernie Sanders is urging Biden to use an executive order to force the rail companies to provide these 115,000 rail workers with paid sick time. Biden should break out his pen and provide these workers the dignity they deserve.

They should get sick time. However, your characterization that the Democratic Party courts unions is wrong; they sold out to them a long time ago
