As I See It
Don’t forget, there’s an important election tomorrow
Don’t look now, but tomorrow is election day in Wisconsin. This one may have snuck up on us, given there hasn’t been much buildup to the election. In fact, one article even referred to Wisconsin’s spring primary as “irrelevant.” That seems an overstatement. Yes, there isn’t much drama to the presidential contest, and there are no statewide races on the ballot. Both President Biden and Donald Trump have secured their party’s nomination, and both will easily carry the state. But there are other races on tomorrow’s ballot, including a race for La Crosse County judge. There are seats on the La Crosse County Board to be decided and an interesting race for the La Crosse School Board, where three seats are up for grabs, but there are only two declared candidates. That is leading to a flurry of write-in campaigns among another half-dozen people who have decided they want to serve. The presidential race may get all the attention, and drive more people to the polls, but these local races have more of a direct impact on our lives. We have more of a say in the outcome. Not sure who to vote for? There is still time to do some research and find a candidate whose values align with yours. Then, we’ll see you at the polls tomorrow.
