New La Crosse County administrator could be at work by the end of September

The process of hiring a new La Crosse County administrator may take another couple months.

The county’s human resources department will start taking applications the first week of August. The official job posting is scheduled Aug. 1.

Two county committees are expected to conduct job interviews in early September.

The actual county board vote on a new administrator has been set for Sept. 15.

The full county board set a vote for Sept. 15 on a successor to administrator Steve O’Malley, who is retiring this fall after nearly two decades on the job.

Jane Klekamp has been named interim administrator to serve while the hiring process is carried out.

The official posting for a job opening is scheduled for Aug. 1.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
