House candidate Cooke picks up endorsement of local hospital workers

When some union workers at Gundersen in La Crosse formed a picket line for better wages this year, 3rd District House candidate Rebecca Cooke met with them on a chilly winter day.

Now, during the summer, one union representing Gundersen health workers is returning the favor by endorsing Cooke for the open 3rd District seat.

Cooke received the local SEIU endorsement at an event in La Crosse on Wednesday.  She told union members that she needs their help, as a candidate who knows the area culture, “who will be a relentless fighter for our way of life.”

“And I’m gonna need your help to do that,” Cooke said at a backyard ice cream social in La Crosse. “I need you all here to talk to your neighbors and your friends, to other Gundersen workers, to other SEIU members throughout this region, not just here in La Crosse, but throughout the 3rd CD.”

Cooke is one of four Democrats running in the August primary to succeed retiring Congressman Ron Kind, along with Brad Pfaff, Mark Neumann, and Deb McGrath. Derrick Van Orden is the lone Republican in the race.
