La Crosse County will be looking for a new administrator.

O’Malley

Steve O’Malley says he plans to retire as administrator in early August, 19 years after the job was created and he was hired to fill it.

O’Malley says the retirement date isn’t certain yet, because he wants to be involved in the transition process as the county chooses a successor. His contract expires at the end of 2023.

At least one county committee will discuss the administrator vacancy this week. A discussion of a vacancy in the administrator’s office was added today to this week’s agenda of a county committee meeting.

The announcement of O’Malley’s pending retirement comes as the La Crosse fire department is searching for a new chief, and La Crosse Center director Art Fahey gets ready for his own retirement.
