Like many other institutions, Fort McCoy had a down year in 2020 because of COVID, but it has bounced back this year.

The Army says that compared to 60,000 troops who trained at McCoy a year ago, the base hosted 116,000 troops this year, with an economic impact of $1.5 billion to the area.

The Army predicts a possible increase again next year.

Fort McCoy had extra activity this year, hosting up to 13,000 refugees from Afghanistan, who started coming to the U.S. in late August.
