La Crosse has experienced its second-warmest start to October ever, through the first 10 days.

There are, however, 142 years separating No. 1 and No. 2, according to the National Weather Service – La Crosse.

The warmest start to an October dates back to 1879. Temperature records have been kept since 1873.

The average temperature over the 10-day span this October was 69.2°F at La Crosse Regional Airport.

This was 12.8°F warmer than the 1991-2020 normal of 56.4 degrees.

In 1879 the average temperature was 70.4°F.
