Five people stranded on the La Crosse River had to be rescued Saturday evening.

Around 8 p.m., the La Crosse Fire Department began helping the canoers near Red Cloud Park.

The five were stuck on a tree in the water, the department said in a statement, but did not detail whether they were in one or multiple canoes.

Firefighters used an inflatable boat to help get those stranded, while another was placed downstream.

All five were moved to the shoreline. Nobody was injured.
