A community celebration in Holmen on Thursday.

Multiple groups are combining efforts, and holding an open house from 5-7 p.m. at the Holmen Area Community Center.

Executive director Jacob Hart called this their “year-late grand opening.”

Tours, program demonstrations, community conversations and a brief 6 p.m. program will be part of the activities.

When the center opened in September of 2020, the main focus was providing virtual programming.

The Holmen Area Community Center works in partnership with the Dave & Barb Skogen Boys & Girls Club and the School District of Holmen. The goal is to meet the needs of all generations in the Holmen area.

“Now on our end, at the Community Center, we provide daily programming for adults, families and seniors,” Hart told Z93. “We do fitness programming, recreational programming, social activities, educational activities, mental health programs, a senior meal everyday.

“Basically, you name it and whatever area of interest whatever need that might exist, we try our best to fulfill that.”

The Boys & Girls Club provides daily after-school programming, and the center aims to assist with programming, tutoring and mentoring.

In addition, the Holmen Area Community Center works with the School District of Holmen to provide resources for families, including seminars through The Parenting Place and parent focus/support groups.

Hart said the center works with over 20 different community partners to make these programs happen. The center is open to everybody in the Holmen area, not just Holmen residents. They have about 250 members that are residents of Holmen, La Crosse, Onalaska, the Town of Holland who all come in and enjoy the facility.

“We’re really just trying to get more folks to learn about it and to come on in,” he said.

The community center includes large and smaller lounges, a dining facility, kitchen and several offices for partner providers — all available to the public.

At the open house, visitors will be provided information about the benefits of membership, including a fall program list.
