Trees and lampposts on one street in La Crosse will be decorated with purple ribbons again this October.

The La Crosse Board of Public Works approved Monday a project by the local Domestic Abuse Reduction Team to place the ribbons along Main Street, between 2nd and Losey.

The project will recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

“It’s a high-risk domestic violence program,” Rita Carranza, the DART and victim service coordinator at New Horizons said during the meeting.

She added that the program deals with “sexual assault and also stalking within the La Crosse Police Department, and in partnership with New Horizons and the police.”

Those ribbons will be placed on lampposts and trees for about two miles on Main Street.
