WisCorps summer program enrollment and Mayor’s crew applications open now
WisCorps youth summer camps kick off this week, and they’re currently seeking high schoolers to be paid employees for The Mayor’s Crew.
WisCorps is a nonprofit focusing on conservation with a mission to develop leadership skills and work ethic in our youth and young adults.
One way it does that is through environmental education. This summer, it will be doing a lot of different summer day camps for ages 3-12.
Sam Strong caught up with Justin Holten, a naturalist with AmeriCorps and a Nature Teacher with WisCorps, to find out what’s on tap for this summer in La Crosse.
“At different times throughout the summer and different times throughout the day we’ll be running different camps that give kids the opportunity to come for a fun time out in nature, doing a lot of different games, hands on activities, see what things are doing in nature and getting to meet some more education animals in person,” Holten said.
WisCorps is hiring for a few positions, including The Mayor’s Crew, now La Crosse Mayor Mitch Reynolds.
“That’s a crew sponsored by the mayor of La Crosse specifically for high school students in La Crosse to get out and do work in our natural environment here in La Crosse,” Holten said. “Getting out and doing trail work, cleaning up parks, homeowner projects, and helping out people at their homes.”
The Mayor’s Crew is a paid position for high schoolers 16 and up.
