Rose Street motel gets snow shoveling bill dismissed by city
Another property owner in La Crosse will get a break from a snow-shoveling bill sent by City Hall.
The board of public works will waive a $1417 invoice for clearing snow at the AmericInn motel on Rose Street.
The property owner told the board that she would have appreciated a call from the city first, before crews came out to clear snow at the motel site, and said that she can usually get the motel parking lot plowed privately for only $350.
La Crosse fire chief Ken Gilliam recommended the waiver, noting that the AmericInn provides a service for his department by allowing the dive rescue team to practice diving from its dock along the Black River.
Gilliam believes members of the dive team would have volunteered to do shoveling themselves at the motel, if they had heard about the need to clear the snow.
Last week, the board reduced a shoveling invoice for a La Crosse homeowner, who provided proof that he was billed for clearing parts of a sidewalk that had not been snowed upon.
