Convicted felon arrested in La Crosse’s third shooting incident within a week

The La Crosse Police Department arrested a man with an out-of-state drug conviction following a shooting in La Crosse Wednesday night.

Police were called to 1020 5th Ave. South for a possible fight in the backyard when it was reported that shots had been fired.

Nobody was hurt, but officers did find shell casings. Upon investigation, police saw a suspected vehicle and conducted a high-risk traffic stop. There was a firearm in the vehicle.

Police arrested Tyrone J. Johnson, 25, for his involvement. Johnson is a convicted felon in the State of Illinois for manufacturing/delivering a non-narcotic drug in 2016, according to police. He is currently on two felony bonds and one misdemeanor bond out of La Crosse County. The felony bonds were for incidents relating to shots fired in July 2020 and a fight in the downtown area in November. The misdemeanor bond was for a domestic incident in Nov. 2019.

Johnson faces the following charges: 1st-degree reckless endangerment of safety, felon in possession of a firearm, misdemeanor battery, intimidation of a witness, misdemeanor bail jumping, and two counts of felony bail jumping.
