Viroqua Police officer hurt in an accident with a semi-truck
An on-duty police officer had to be extricated from his vehicle after being hit by a semi-truck trailer in Viroqua Friday morning.
The accident happened on Main Street at Willow Street near the Bus Garage. The officer was driving south on Main Street when a semi-truck and trailer heading north started to jackknife. Police said the driver, Scott Kunda of Winona, was driving too fast for conditions, and the trailer started to slide when going around a corner.
The trailer hit the squad car. The officer was extricated and taken to Vernon Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The semi-truck had moderate damage, but the squad was totaled.
The accident was investigated by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
