La Crosse under 40 COVID-19 cases in back-to-back days for 1st time since mid-Oct.

Down to 36 cases of COVID-19 in La Crosse County on Tuesday.

It’s the second consecutive day in the 30s, which hasn’t happened since mid-October.

The county is averaging 55.4 cases per day the past week with a 27.3% positivity rate over that time.

Two more county residents were hospitalized, bringing that total to 304 — 56 of those in December.

Also, to note, the county hasn’t suffered any COVID-19 deaths since Thursday. Last week, there were six virus deaths in total — at least one every day, Monday-Thursday.

In surrounding counties, Jackson suffered two COVID-19 deaths, bringing its total to 14 — five in the past seven days.


Here’s a look at cases and current hospitalizations in surrounding counties:
VERNON: 20 new cases (11.6/day past week – 1,452 total – 178 active – 6 hospitalized)
TREMPEALEAU: 10 new cases (15.1/day past week – 2,861 total – 348 active – 8 hospitalized)
MONROE: 18 new cases (24.0/day past week – 3,300 total – 184 active – 3 hospitalized)
JACKSON: 57 new cases (30.0/day past week – 2,304 total – 256 active – 6 hospitalized)
WINONA: 12 new cases (16.7/day past week – 3,453 total)
HOUSTON: 11 new cases (12.4/day past week – 1,089 total)
FILLMORE: 12 new cases (1,019 total)


Statewide, a bit of a jump in numbers across the board in Wisconsin, which added 2,402 cases, after having been under 2,000 cases the past two days.

There was also a single-day record high 120 deaths. It’s just the third time the state has had deaths over 100. It last happened Dec. 1.The past two days, there was a combined 26 deaths.

There were also 187 hospitalizations. The state had 68 and 48 hospitalizations the past two days.

Minnesota added 1,714 cases, 187 hospitalizations and 24 deaths. The state has now gone back-to-back days under 2,000 cases for the first time since Oct. 25-26.

Iowa data shows another 1,557 cases, 113 hospitalizations and 64 deaths Tuesday. The state has now had odd daily death tolls in three spurts over the past 10 days, where there was either one or zero deaths one day, followed by 60 deaths, 102 deaths and 64 deaths the next.

Iowa is averaging 44.7 deaths a day the past week.
