Jackson County Sheriff’s Office investigates possible child abduction attempt

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an attempted child abduction Sept. 27 around 7:40 p.m. near the baseball field of the Merrillan Elementary School.

Deputies who responded to the area said they met with several children who were all safe. A suspicious, older, gray panel van was reported in the area and alleged to be involved.

Deputies and school staff are working together to investigate the incident and clarify what happened.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reminded all community members of the importance of supervising children. Law enforcement will continue to be on proactive patrol in the community.
