Art park idea gets approval from La Crosse park board

La Crosse is getting closer to having a new park set aside specifically for sculptures.

The park board has approved the concept of what would be called the Nehosto Art Park, just north of the La Crosse River.

City arts board chair Jennifer Williams says the idea has been on the drawing board for some time, and  the ‘ephemeral’ kind of artwork which could be displayed in the park includes a long-planned archway which would be built from branches of trees.

The arch would be designed to deteriorate over time, as part of nature.

The name Nehosto comes from a Ho-Chunk word meaning ‘waters come together.’

A similar plan has been talked about for the Friendship Gardens at the north end of Riverside Park.
