No fireworks allowed in Upper Miss refuge

Published

Lots of 4th of July fireworks displays have been cancelled for this year, which may lead some folks to buy their own firecrackers and rockets.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service warns, don’t bring them to the Upper Mississippi Refuge.

Getting caught with fireworks in the refuge might cost you $225.

The refuge officials want to avoid littering, and they also say that fireworks can frighten and confuse animals, and possibly harm them if they ingest litter from the devices.

Glass bottles also will not be allowed on refuge beaches, at the risk of a $175 fine.

The refuge includes most islands on a stretch of the Mississippi that includes four states, from Wabasha to Rock Island.

Hope the Town of Onalaska board members have seen this article when they vote tonight on whether to allow a fireworks event at a SMALL town park location.
