Support for tennis court lights in La Crosse capital budget

Tennis courts and other park and rec projects around La Crosse are high on the list of items city residents would like to see funded in the capital budget for the next five years.

The city plan commission had a brief meeting Monday night on financing for lighting at the tennis courts now being built at Green Island, and for a shelter at Weigent Park on Cass Street.

Many people who play tennis have told city leaders that they can’t use unlighted tennis courts during the daytime.

The outdoor courts are now being developed outside the Green Island ice arena.

Scott Neumeister of the plan commission warns voters that revenue shortages will limit how much the city can spend.

“This next year is gonna be difficult at best, and I think for all of us, but it’s one where we’re just gonna have to strap down, and buckle our chinstraps on,” said Neumeister.

A final commission vote on the capital budget is expected on June 22nd.
