La Crosse pools closed for summer amid virus concerns

All three pools in the city of La Crosse will be closed for summer as a precaution to COVID-19.

The La Crosse Parks and Rec. Department announced Thursday, Veterans Memorial, Erickson and the North Side Community pools will remain closed.

Memorial Pool had just been re-opened last August after a $3.1 million renovation. It was shutdown in 2016 because it was leaking massive amounts of water, among other problems.

“The level of public congregation that takes place at municipal swimming pools and the number of staff required to operate our three facilities creates an environment with a multitude of safety concerns,” a statement from the department reads.

Parks and rec. added that splash pads and beaches are being prepared to open for summer, if it’s deemed safe to do so.
