La Crosse seeks opinion on how it spends federal money

Is the City of La Crosse mismanaging $1.1 million in federal funds it receives for housing, economic development, and other services?

People now have a chance in a “City of La Crosse Community Development Survey” that can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/lacrossecommunity

The survey asks whether you live and/or work in La Crosse. Depending on your answer, it will ask you about your home and your neighborhood. It will also ask questions about uses for the Community Development Block Grants and programs funded within the city. The survey also inquires how the city should address homelessness/poverty.

Mayor Tim Kabat says the input will be critical as they start making decisions.

“It’s a check to see how we’re doing with our investment of those block grant funds,” Kabat said, “or if there are other areas we should be putting our efforts toward.”

The city did the survey five years ago, as well.

The mayor stresses prioritization with all of the issues the city could deal with.

“We want to make sure we’re covering our community needs, and what our people care about,” Kabat said. “Especially when we talk about public safety, lighting projects, and affordable housing, we know there are needs out there.”

The deadline to fill out the survey is Oct. 31. The results will be given to the council next year.
