North side lot could be donated for school playground

A century-old house in north La Crosse could be torn down soon for green space, or for possible use as a school playground.

The city plan commission has recommended waiting 30 days before approving demolition of the house on Liberty Street, near Immanuel Lutheran School.

The house was built in the 1880’s and apparently is beyond repair.

The Harter family wants to donate the lot to the church and school.

The 30-day referral could allow the owners to find someone who wants to develop the land for housing or another purpose.
