Caledonia man killed in forklift fall

A Caledonia man died, and two others were hurt, after a tree-cutting accident in Mower County where a forklift tipped over.

Sixty-three-year-old Earl Klankowski of Caledonia was declared dead at the scene on Sunday, after he and a second man fell about 30 feet from the lift platform.

Patrick O’Connor of Dexter was seriously hurt in his fall from the platform.

O’Connor is being treated in Rochester for serious injuries.

Benjamin Klankowski was operating the machine, and tried to move the platform when the accident happened.

He was trapped under the equipment, but had minor injuries.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
