La Crosse’s city plan commission reviews spending ideas for 2020
What gets done next year, and what can wait?
City leaders in La Crosse are starting to tackle the capital improvement plan for the next five years.
The city plan commission will have a public hearing next month on priorities for 2020.
Some of the items, which are being delayed beyond next year, include a study aimed at preventing washouts on Bliss Road, a $36 million law enforcement facility for the police and fire departments, and improved security for the city hall lobby.
One or two city fire stations could be built soon, as well.
Fire Chief Ken Gilliam told the plan commission that his first building priority is to replace the 80-year-old north-side fire station on Gillette Street.
Gilliam is also scouting locations on the far south side for a fifth fire station.
The proposed cost for a new north-side fire station is $6.5 million.
