Student government head unhappy with building commission votes
The second phase of a new science center at UW-La Crosse has been put on hold by the state building commission.
That action has upset at least one student leader on campus.
The current president of the UW-L student association, Ben O’Connell, said many buildings on campus need to be updated.
O’Connell said his parents went to classes in the old science building, Cowley Hall, built more than 50 years ago.
Republicans on the building commission rejected the latest capital budget last week in an apparent protest over state borrowing.
O’Connell said blocking dorm improvements at UW campuses affects students where they live.
