Snow fences wanted along Fillmore County road

The calendar may say that winter is over, but the Minnesota Department of Transportation is busy planning for next winter, and the one after that.

MnDOT is studying the use of snow fencing to stop blowing snow from causing messes on highways.

Agency spokeswoman Cindy Morgan said a variety of natural methods could be used to block snowstorms, including corn rows and hay bales.

MnDOT is offering to pay landowners in Fillmore County to install natural snow fences along Highway 250, as part of a statewide study of snow-blocking materials.

A study team will be in Lanesboro on Monday to give a presentation on the project.
