Miller homicide case scheduled two years after overdose death

The case was filed more than 500 days ago, but a reckless homicide trial in La Crosse County court is being rescheduled for December.

The trial of Zachary Miller of Camp Douglas had been set for April, but a key witness in the case is expecting a baby around that time and might not be available.

The witness reportedly said that overdose victim Kyle Bott was at a Kwik Trip, where he bought fentanyl from Miller back in 2017.

Miller’s defense attorney, Christopher Zachar, isn’t sure the witness is needed for the trial, because store video could establish that Miller and Bott were at the Kwik Trip.

Judge Elliott Levine agreed to the prosecution request for a postponement, even though Miller has waited over a year already for a trial.

Miller is out of jail.
