Kmart property buyer revealed as local developer, site plans in the works

The new owner of the former Kmart site in La Crosse should be pretty familiar with it. 

The VSC Corporation has owned the Village Shopping Center across the road from the old Kmart for the last 32 years. 

The acquisition announcement from VSC comes with a promise to develop the State Road property to “its highest and best use to compliment the neighborhood and the Village Shopping Center.” 

The group plans to work on specific site plan with developers. 

In a statement about the sale, the city’s planning department said a number of factors make the property “an ideal candidate for new opportunities in housing and neighborhood-serving commercial uses.”  A purchase price on the property has not been disclosed.
