Police are still investigating a sexual assault at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

It was reported early Saturday night on La Crosse Street near the Eagle and Coate residence halls.

La Crosse police are looking for a 6-foot-tall white male, who was wearing a dark sweatshirt and sweatpants and rimmed glasses.

Violence prevention specialist Ingrid Peterson said students need to watch out for each other and trust their instincts.

“We do a lot on our campus, as well, to educate everyone about bystander intervention,” Peterson said. “This idea that, when you see something that looks like it might be going bad, how can we intervene in a safe and helpful way?”

Peterson noted that most sexual assault cases are made by someone the victim knows. “Stranger” sexual assaults for just about 10 percent of all cases.
