The La Crosse Center Board may be ready to vote on a new $42 million expansion plan as soon as today.

The civic center just hosted an open house last week, to take public comments on two new proposals for renovating the building.

One plan would rebuild the north end of the La Crosse Center, while the other would rework the west side, facing the riverfront.

Both plans would include a second ballroom for the building.

The new proposals were unveiled four months after the council and Mayor Tim Kabat rejected a design which would have extended the civic center into Riverside Park and cost around $48 million.

Center leaders want to send a recommendation to the La Crosse’s city council in time for its January meetings.
