Some yearly celebrations in the La Crosse area, like Oktoberfest and Riverfest, have been well-known for decades.

Those events don’t necessarily need a lot of promotion in the Coulee Region.

Smaller or newer events that could use a little publicity, however, could get it from the Explore La Crosse agency.

The convention bureau will host back-to-back meetings at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. tonight at the Radisson Hotel in downtown La Crosse (map).

There, festival organizers can learn about methods of self-promotion and how to get funding for their events.

“We’d like to invest in our community, invest in the festivals that bring people to the area,” Brent Hanifl with Explore La Crosse said, mentioning events like the Midwest Music Festival, Country Boom and even sporting events. “If you have an idea, you can just come along.”

In recent years, La Crosse County has broken into the top 10 money-making counties for tourism in Wisconsin.
