The boots are coming.

The La Crosse Police Department is warning that on Nov. 15, it will begin “booting” cars that have multiple overdue parking tickets.

Immobilization of cars for parking fines was recently approved by state lawmakers and the city adopted a booting ordinance this summer.

Any car with five or parking tickets that are 60 or more days old can be immobilized or towed.

City police have already mailed out notices to the last known owners of the cars that meet the definition of a habitual offender but say they haven’t heard back from many.

That list runs to 620 cars and totals over $343,000 in unpaid parking tickets.

Several offenders have over 30 unpaid tickets. One has 41 overdue tickets and another owes $5,547.60 in overdue fines.

Plates are from as far away as Texas, Louisiana and Washington.

This is going to affect poor people that can’t afford to pay the tickets a lot more than anyone else, but cheer up it’s a form of a tax increase
