La Crescent Library future probably linked to City Hall relocation

Published

If La Crescent City Hall moves to a new location soon, the city library probably will have to move along with it.

The two share a building and library director LaVonne Beach believes that the sharing would continue in a new building.

Beach says in any case, the La Crescent Library is growing and needs more space.

“We need, probably, if I had to guess, double the space that we have right now,” Beach said of the 4,800-square-foot library.

“Our circulation is increasing,” Beach said. “I know a lot of libraries are reporting flat circulation but our circulation increased by 12 percent last year over the previous year.”

Beach said the library needs to be included in any negotiations for a new City Hall.

Plans to expand the downtown La Crescent Quillin’s grocery store probably would require City Hall to move to a different building.
