La Crosse County reaches 1,000th felony a week ahead of last year’s pace
For the second consecutive year, La Crosse County has recorded 1,000 felony cases.
This year, it came a week earlier than last.
The district attorney’s office blames much of the spike in felonies in recent years on drug use and possession, especially meth.
By comparison, Milwaukee County only needed two months to reach the 1,000-felony level this year.
The 1,000th felony case was a domestic abuse charge against Yovon Boyd of West Salem. The 33-year-old was arrested Tuesday after allegedly trying to choke his girlfriend during an argument.
He’s also charged with felony possession of a firearm.

Department is overcharging the “crime” as felonies, then pleading down to actually fitting the crime. (What should have been the original charge.) So, therefore, numbers of felonies has risen. The public gets mad because it appears the judges are so forgiving and letting “felony” criminals off too easily. Much of this is the DA’s responsibility and should be blamed for this contortions of the law.
