The new Mrs. Oktoberfest for 2018 is a La Crosse native who grew up celebrating the fall festival.

Mary Mickelson was introduced on Wednesday night as the final official member of this year’s royal fest family, who will preside over activities through the next four days.

Mickelson says she learned of the honor back in May, when she was asked by other women to deliver a geranium, and suspected something when she recognized the women as officials of Oktoberfest.

Mary grew up on the north side, and recalls marching with the Logan High band in the Oktoberfest parades.  On Thursday night, she and her husband Randy will join the other fest royalty to take part in the Torchlight Parade on Caledonia Street.
