Coulee Region Humane Society says it’ll do what it can to help shelters after hurricane
The cleanup has begun on the east coast after Hurricane Florence.
Animal shelters in the area may need help lightening the load of stray pets.
Last year, during Hurricane Harvey, the Coulee Region Humane Society was able to provide that help.
“Down in Texas when that hurricane happened, we already had a contact down there,” Taylor Bates at Coulee Region said. “If (anyone on the east coast does) reach out to us in the next couple weeks, and we had space and the resources, we would definitely help out.”
Bates says the shelters are trying to make room for the many strays after owners left them behind in the storm.
They need to make space for all the strays bc there’s going to be a lot of people coming back to the area looking for their pet. We would hate to get an animal that was someone’s stray down there.
Bates says the shelter is currently pretty full and the flood in the Coulee Region hasn’t helped.
“We’ve been getting requests for donations,” Bates said. “We have a local issue and now we have a larger issue at hand.”
