A La Crosse County man who was shot by police during a confrontation two years ago reached a plea agreement in the case on Friday.

Out of a long list of criminal charges dating back to the summer of 2015, Daniel Lexvold has pleaded ‘no contest’ to just three charges, including attempted battery against La Crosse policeman Ryan De Florian.

In court on Friday Lexvold explained his plea in that case to Judge Ramona Gonzalez: “Basically that i attempted but did not follow through with the battery.”

De Florian and a second officer shot Lexvold when he charged at them with a chain.

During the confrontation, officers used everything to try and get Lexvold to stop coming at the — verbal commands, tasers, bean bag rounds from a shotgun and, finally the police K9 named Sayibe.

Lexvold also is convicted of struggling with La Crosse police after a traffic stop in March of this year.

Lexvold was pulled for driving the wrong way down Cass Street in downtown La Crosse.

When police asked him to get out to perform a sobriety test, a drug pipe fell out of his car.

As police tried to take Lexvold into custody, he became combative.

During the struggle with police, Lexvold said it was a good thing he didn’t have his logging chain with him

He could get more than 12 years in prison when he’s sentenced this fall.
