Smile, La Crosse boat owners, you’re on ‘Boat Patrol Camera.’

It’s not just the City of La Crosse, the county and the DNR are watching for speeding and other hazardous behavior on the water.

La Crosse’s assistant police chief Rob Abraham said people living near the river have cameras, too, and are willing to share their pictures or videos.

“Some of these people have some really good cameras,” Abraham said. “We’ve been getting some excellent pictures of the operator, the boat, of the boat numbers  the time, date. We’ll take those complaints, just like we take any complaint.”

The no-wake zone of 10 feet on the Mississippi River will probably be in effect through all of Riverfest, which begins today.

Abraham says the no-wake restriction does not apply to water-skiing shows scheduled during the festival.
